Orthodontic elastics come in different strengths and sizes. Your orthodontist will advise the one most suited for your current treatment depending on the size and force necessary.
As well as orthodontic braces being used to close the gaps between teeth, patients also need their teeth aligning into position for a correct ‘bite’. Rubber bands or orthodontic elastics are often involved in this stage of treatment; one on each side of the mouth to move your teeth and jaw into the proper alignment. Bands are hooked between a bracket attached to your top canines and a bracket attached to one of your bottom molars.
The orthodontist will advise where the elastics need to be placed.
